Police have recommended charges against a 21-year-old man, alleging he assaulted two employees and robbed a Weeds Glass and Gifts shop in east Vancouver.

Surveillance footage from Nov. 4, 2017 showed a man entering the Weeds shop on Victoria Drive and striking up a conversation with the woman behind the counter. Then, the video shows the man jumping over the counter, assaulting the employee and grabbing products from the shelves before fleeing.

Outside the shop, the man assaulted a second employee.

On March 7, Vancouver police released images from the security footage in a bid to identify a suspect. With the help of a number of tips, a man was arrested later that evening.

“The tips are still coming in,” said Const. Jason Doucette on Thursday. “This is a great example of teamwork between the VPD, our media partners, and the public.”

The suspect has been released from custody and ordered to abide by several conditions. Charges have been recommended and are awaiting approval.
